Travel to Iceland – Things You Must Know

Since the lifting of all travel restrictions on Iceland last March, more people from throughout the world have been making the historic and monumental travel to Iceland. The tourism industry in Iceland has boomed and more people than ever before are traveling to the island each year. As the tourism and fishing industries continue to flourish, more visitors than ever before are also expected to make the Iceland trip. If you’re currently planning on traveling to Iceland, but do not have a visa, there are steps you can take to get one.

The first thing you need to do if you are travelling to Iceland is contact your local Icelandic embassy or consulate and inquire about any and all travel restrictions or sanctions your country may have in effect pertaining to your traveling to Iceland. While there are no travel restrictions on Iceland at this time, it is advisable to contact the relevant authorities ahead of time. You will be required to present all necessary documentation, such as passports and visa application forms. Because of the continuing demand for airline tickets, processing visa applications in advance of your travel date can help ensure that you’ll be able to board your flight and travel to Iceland easily and quickly.

The second thing you need to know about your traveling to Iceland are its entry requirements. All airlines do not list which countries they service and/or operate with. Some airlines only service certain parts of the world. In your personal assessment of your individual travel plans, identify which countries and regions you plan to visit – and therefore, which must be met in order to gain a visitor visa – before scheduling your Iceland trip.

In addition to the information about your individual entry requirements, you’ll need to know about Iceland’s laws regarding visa requirements when travelling outside of the country. For example, there are two types of visa restrictions: one that involves an electronic system that requires travelers to present a negative Pcr or antigen (biological security certificate or rapid Positive Evidence of Immunization) before travelling; and another that does not. In the case of the electronic system, only citizens of Iceland who have a recognized passport that contains a current photograph are authorized to present a negative Pcr or antigen (biological security certificate or rapid positive evidence of immunization). For the electronic system, only citizens of Iceland who have a recognized travel document that contains a recent photograph are permitted to present a negative Pcr or antigen (biological security certificate or rapid positive evidence of immunization).

Before departing for your journey to Iceland, you should also be aware of the arrival and departure requirements of the country’s civil aviation authority. You must apply for a visa in advance of your scheduled departure. If you are travelling on an international plane, you must also present your passport upon arrival. If you are travelling by land, you are required to present your passport upon arrival, but you do not need to apply for a visa beforehand.

If you are traveling to Iceland on a cruise ship, you must first obtain a sailing permit from the customs office in Iceland. Such permits will vary depending on the port of origin, and most often you will have to provide proof that you are sailing under a flag of the country of Iceland. It is very important that you are well aware of all immigration procedures when traveling to Iceland, and that you always carry proof of citizenship when crossing the sea or air-bound.
