Unique City Cruises Around the Globe

Exploring a new city by water is just as exciting as seeing it on shore. Cities around the world offer cruises and boating excursions to travellers to show off the watery views. More touristy locations have “booze cruises” available, but many visitors are opting to experience a new place with more unusual cruises.

Amsterdam, Holland

Viewing Amsterdam by water is said to be a totally different experience than by land. More than 25 percent of the city is made up of canals and waterways, all waiting to be explored in high fashion. For a more romantic experience, try the Dutch Candlelight Cruise offered by Canal, a cruise company in the city. You can view the land beneath the starlight while enjoying local wines and Dutch cheese platters. The cruise goes by the city highlights, giving you a completely different view of the landmarks you visit during the day.

Venice, Italy

The floating city of Venice is what most people think of when they hear the word “canal”. With very few roads available, most visitors have to explore the city via water, which is definitely the most beautiful way to see the city. For travellers visiting for the first time, a canal tour is a good way to get your bearings. Avventure Bellissime offers private tours that are designed for those visiting the city for the first time. The locations visited on this cruise make up for the fact that there isn’t a meal or drinks served. Besides travelling the Grand Canal, this cruise takes travellers down lesser-known waterways to explore parts of Venice that are usually overlooked by tourists.

Newport Beach, California, USA

The Pacific Ocean awaits you on the Golden Coast. Newport Beach is where many people enjoy living in the lap of luxury, and there’s no reason why you shouldn’t do the same while visiting its sandy shores. While there are numerous cruise lines that offer tours around the seven islands, Horn Blower Cruises and Events offer a Champagne Cruise, complete with a bottomless flute of champagne, a classic American breakfast buffet and a decadent lunch with desserts. You can spend your morning coasting around the waters while taking in the views of the luxury yachts and celebrity homes before taking in the sights on land.

Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada

Some cities are known for more than their buildings and history. Whales and other sea life are common to see off of the west coast of Canada, and Vancouver has one of the best vantage points in the province. Though viewing the city from the water may seem like great way to spend an afternoon, the real feat lies in front of the boat. Whale watching tours are for those looking for a more adventurous cruise. Orcas, humpbacks, grey whales, sea lions, porpoises, and seals can be seen in the waters off the Vancouver harbour.  The boats may not be luxurious, but the wildlife you’ll see will make this cruise seem like the best way for travellers to take part in Vancouver culture.
